Yas, an entertainment paradise
There is no shortage of adrenalin thrills on Yas Island. This artificial island, custom-made for the Formule 1 Grand Prix, lies just off the coast of Abu Dhabi. This oil state likes to think big so the rest of the island is packed with luxury attractions for its visitors. There are more than 50 restaurants, various luxury hotels and child-friendly attractions.
Roaring engines
The biggest attraction on Yas is the Marina Circuit. This is where the Formule 1 Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi is held every year. When there are no races, you have the chance to go around the track or ride with a professional racer. The circuit runs along the harbour and underneath the Yas Marina Hotel. The race takes place partially in the dark so that the sidelines boast impressive light installations. Speed fans will also love Ferrari World, located next to the race track. This amusement park is inspired by the Italian car manufacturer. It features the fastest rollercoaster in the world (Formula Rossa), several Italian restaurants and espresso bars. Younger visitors can try the Ferrari go-carts.
Adrenalin rush in Yas Waterworld
Water lovers will make a splash at Yas Waterworld, a 15 hectare water park. The theme park is based on a story of a young girl looking for a legendary pearl. Impressive slides set the scene. Try the 238-metre-long Tornado slide Dawwama or the 8-metre-high Jebel Drop, where the first part of the slide goes almost straight down. For surfers there is the Bubble’s Barrel. These artificial waves are not only great for surfing but also for flow boarding and body boarding.
A day at the Yas Mall
Big, bigger, biggest: that is Abu Dhabi’s motto. And that is certainly the case at Yas Mall. With more than 370 stores and 60 restaurants, this is the largest mall in Abu Dhabi. In addition to major international labels, you will also find local brands here. There is also a replica of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, made entirely from Lego. Little ones can play at the Fun Works playground, whereas older children will have a blast in the laser game hall or in the bumper cars. Or hop in a flight simulator and fly to Hong Kong or St. Maarten. Yas Mall also features 4DX cinemas. In addition to seeing and hearing the movie, you will also smell and feel it.

Houston and Dallas may be bigger and more famous, but Austin is in fact the capital of Texas. It’s also the least Texan city in Texas. And the weirdest city in the country. This is something its residents take pride in, as evidenced by the Austin motto of Keep Austin Weird! Have a peek inside weird houses or admire a cathedral of junk in a city where there is even a museum devoted entirely to the weird and strange.

When it comes to music, you might be inclined to think New Orleans (jazz), Memphis (rock ‘n’ roll), Chicago (blues) or Nashville (country), but Austin is actually the music capital of the US. The city boasts over 250 music venues, more than any other American city. You can choose from countless live performances and a fantastic music festival every month, such as SXSW. Austin lives and breathes music.
